You know your neighborhood is gentrifying when:
1. The local supermarket sells organic food.
2. The police address you as sir or Ma’am.
3. Yellow cabs stop for passengers.
4. The Department of Sanitation picks up the garbage that falls out of the truck.
5. The new coffee shop is a Starbucks.
6. Your neighbor calls in a noise complaint & the police respond.
7. Your block party has a clown instead of a DJ.
8. The bodega is replaced by the gourmet deli.
9. The only thing higher than your rent is voter turn out.
10. White folks move in.

Each morning I wake is the start of a brand new day,
Knowing in my heart that love is here and finally to stay.
We have a love like I never have known,
Even away from your presence I’m never alone.
Our hearts are connected no matter how far apart,
I feel it has been that way from the very start.
I’m writing you this poem from a far away land,
Counting down the days till we can walk hand in hand.
Your love keeps me strong by day and by night,
Knowing that very soon all will be just right.
Soon we will be together and never apart,
To start a new life built straight from the heart.
I can hardly wait to see you again,
To leave this place called Afghanistan.
I know we are blessed from the Lord far above,
Thus bringing us together to share this great love.
My heart to yours now and forever,
Here for you no matter how storming the weather.
